Deer Hunting Grooms Cake

Along with the bride's cake in last week's post, I was so excited to create this cake for the groom at a nearby wedding a couple of weeks ago.  He provided a forestry scene for me to replicate on a cake, and it took two of us to make it come together.

After a long day and night, we were so pleased with how it turned out.  Every time we would walk into the shop we'd be surprised how great it looked - it was such a feat!

We started with grey-green fondant, and hand-painted the trees.  Then we piped on white royal icing for the bark texture, and had-painted that also.

Green and brown leaves were made of gumpaste and dusted with lustre dust, and then placed strategically throughout the cake.  The deer were provided by the couple.

The entire cake was red velvet with cream cheese icing, which was the perfect compliment to the bride's vanilla cake.  I am so proud of this cake, and was delighted to place it on a slice out of a wooden stump at the venue, which really completed the look.

I smile when I think of all of the hunting and camouflage cakes I've made this year.  Today I am making a David Brown tractor for the top of a wedding cake next week.  It truly is the theme for 2012!
