Last spring, Julie, the owner of Hearts to God Christian Books and Gifts, approached me with the idea of using the back room of her store for cake decorating classes. With my background in teaching high school, I jumped at the chance to use those skills again and teach others the things that I have learned in cake decorating.
Yesterday we ran a "class" with three wonderful ladies, and created haunted houses (and one cute Christmas house). I write "classes" since I tend to consider them more of a workshop, where we create one project, and everybody learns techniques as we go along. Some people do not have any knowledge of cake decorating, and some come with experience or have taken other classes before.
In this particular workshop, they learned about working with fondant, and rice cereal, how to ice a cake in buttercream, and cover it with fondant. I was extremely impressed with how smooth everyone's cakes were! Everyone stopped to take pictures as they were so proud of themselves.
I received many compliments on the workshop, and the room we were in. It was the perfect size for a small or a large class, and everyone was so excited to show their families what they had made.
Thanks, Julie, for providing this opportunity, and I can't wait to run the Holiday cupcake topper classes during the next two months.
