A Sixteenth Birthday Haute Couture Cake

When I was at the Baking and Sweets Show a few weeks ago, I took a class in which we learned to make Haute Couture cakes.  Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to complete it, so when I received an order for a girl, frilly sixteenth birthday cake, I jumped at the chance to try it again.

Since I was participating in the Heart of Hastings Studio Tour the weekend of the birthday party, I decided to decorate it during the show.  You'll have to pardon the awful lazy susan I always use - I'd forgotten the board at home.

The elegant white colour looked too much like a wedding cake, so with my pink lustre dust and a little lemon extract, I hand-painted the frills a shiny pink.
The cake was several layers of vanilla butter cake with vanilla buttercream inside.  I couldn't bear to put any writing or letters on it, so I placed a medallion on the board.  I am very happy with how it turned out!
