Here in Hastings County (north of Belleville) all of our sweet, small towns and villages are running a studio tour over the first two weekends in November. Crafts and gifts are being shown and sold all over, and Christmas decorations have been dusted off and are prettying up the shops. Buses from Campbellford and Peterborough are unloading in the streets of Stirling to send shoppers and onlookers "out and about,"(I am so Canadian) and people from as far away as Napanee are coming by.

Since I have been stationed at the back of Hearts to God Books and Gifts with my cake supplies and decorating classes, many people have stopped in, signed up for classes and/or bought a double chocolate cupcake (or six!) Since I still have orders to fill, customers have had the opportunity to see me in action (which doesn't happen very often) as I decorate the latest cake.
Here is a sweet sixteen birthday cake I worked on during the Saturday show. It needs to be put on it's board, and touched up with some pink lustre dust!
Part of the display involved examples of the cakes we will be making during our classes. (please xcuse my out-of-date cellphone in the photo!) Pictures of the last class were shown on a large screen. Last month we made haunted houses, and next month is Christmas Elf cupcakes. On into January we will try another carving exercise.
Of course, we had all of our products for sale. Fondant, icing colours, even cookie cutters...
And lastly, cupcakes and cookies to eat :)
And now we do it all again this weekend!
Demos this weekend: Storm Trooper head and shoulders in 3D, and a topsy turvy 16th birthday cake!
